On Thursday, July 28, nearly twenty intactivists from the bay area and beyond arrived at the Civic Center Courthouse in San Francisco for the San Francisco Male Genital Mutilation Bill court hearing. Some attended the hearing while the rest stood outside of the courthouse holding signs, giving interviews and speaking with members of the community who happened to be passing by the demonstration.
Opponents of the San Francisco Male Genital Mutilation Bill have filed a lawsuit against the city of San Francisco with the intent to have the bill removed from the November ballot. Should this attempt to stifle democracy succeed, it would unjustly silence the voices of the more than seven thousand San Franciscans whose signatures qualified this landmark ballot initiative.
Bay Area Intactivists send our warmest congratulations to those who are working to pass the San Francisco Male Genital Mutilation Bill. As of Tuesday, May 17, the initiative has been qualified to be on the November 2011 ballot. Show your support for the bill by wearing one of the great shirts available from the SF MGM Bill CafePress store.
