Common Questions & Answers

When is the Santa Cruz Pride Parade?
The 2015 Santa Cruz Pride Parade takes place on Sunday, June 7.

Do I have to identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender to march with Bay Area Intactivists?
Not at all! As in previous years, our contingent will be made up of a diverse group of individuals opposed to forced genital cutting.

Do I need to register to march with Bay Area Intactivists?
No, but if you have a Facebook account we would love it if you'd click “Going” on this event so that we have a rough idea of how many people to expect.

Is there an admission fee?
No, admission to Santa Cruz Pride is free and there is no fee to march with Bay Area Intactivists.

Are children allowed to participate?
Absolutely! We welcome intactivists of all ages to join us.

What should I wear?
Wear shoes comfortable for walking. A hat and sunglasses are great for protection from the sun. If you have an intactivist shirt, please wear it! If you would like to purchase an intactivist shirt for the parade, you can do so from our store.

What should I bring?
Drinking water (in a plastic or metal container) and sunscreen are recommended.

Are wagons, strollers, or bicycles allowed in the parade?
Yes! We especially love seeing them outfitted with intactivist signs or other decorations.

How long is the march?
The parade route is approximately a quarter mile along Pacific Avenue.

What can I expect during the parade?
We will have a variety of signs (both large and small) available for intactivists to carry along Pacific Avenue. We are not permitted to hand out anything during the Santa Cruz Pride Parade. A few intactivists will distribute leaflets, stickers, and wristbands following the parade.

Can I bring my own sign?
Yes, any messages supporting genital autonomy or the human right to genital integrity are great. Signs opposing forced genital cutting are also welcome. The decision whether or not to use graphic images or strong language is up to you. Be sure that the lettering on your signs is large and bold enough for it to be legible from a distance.

Where do we assemble before the parade?
We will assemble near Pacific Avenue & Cooper Street. There will be an information booth located near this intersection where you can obtain our exact location. Our contingent is registered as "Bay Area Intactivists."

What time should I arrive?
Intactivists will begin to assemble at 10:00 am. Please arrive no later than 10:30 am if you plan to march.

Where do I ask my question that isn't covered here?
